The Symbols

The symbol atop the Black Power Couple’s Brunch crest is an Adinkra symbol, visual symbols that represent concepts, proverbs and aphorisms originating from the Gyaman people of Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire. This particular symbol incorporates “ODO NNYEW FIE KWAN” which symbolizes the power of love, and the message “Love will never lose it’s way”. Or, to paraphrase another adage, “Love never fails”.

The Purpose

The Black Power Couple’s Brunch is a networking and edification brunch centered on the preservation and celebration of Black Love. Indianapolis is home to countless Black business owners, business professionals, lawyers, physicians, authors and creatives. Those same titans of industry are often in loving partnerships with a spouse or significant other, many of whom are also professionals of high stature. Unfortunately, the propensity for Black power couples to thrive is often challenging to navigate as competing ambitions, imposter syndrome, balance shifts in earning power, along with and the demands of juggling child care, home upkeep and a personal relationship, (often in that order) get in the way of love and affection. We aim to disrupt that.

The vision for this inaugural event is for Black Couples to break bread and share collective wisdom through their trials and triumphs, while participating in guided discussions on topics that can strengthen and embolden the power of black love.

For years we've rocked heavy with male energy on the soundtrack. Not just at the Brunch, but at our festivals as well. This year, we wanted to intentionally bring that divine feminine energy and let the Ladies rock it.

It is with that spirit and emotion in mind that we're pleased to announce the DJ for the 2026 Black Power Couples Brunch is none other than DJ Lady Shay!

"Music moves my soul!" As a native of Gary, Indiana, she was heavily influenced by her family’s gospel career and the great Jackson 5. Over time, she developed a love of music from all genres which spans from Phil Collins to 2Pac and has become a staple of her 15+ year mobile deejaying career.

From the Midwest to worldwide, everyone is "Rocking with Shay™". She currently resides in Indiana but can be found deejaying in some of your favorite vacation spots like the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. She is also a proud member of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., who enjoys mentoring the youth. While she enjoys spinning in clubs, she equally enjoys more intimate engagements and special events like weddings and corporate events.

Shay will contribute to our carefully curated soundtrack alongside cellist, pianist and vocalist, Ivan Patrick Elias Moreland with a luxury brunch crafted by none other than Temicka Chef Tweet Moore of Sincere Catering.

Meet our entertainment for the 2026 Black Power Couples Brunch, cellist, pianist, and vocalist, Ivan Patrick Elias Moreland!!!

Ivan's musical roots began in church, and over the years he's grown into an artist who blends soul, R&B, gospel, and contemporary styles to create warm, expressive performances.

He's been fortunate enough to share the stage with music legends like Lalah Hathaway at the 2025 Circle City Classic President’s Gala; Jonathan Butler, Najee, and Gerald Albright at the 2025 Jazz Allstars concert, and in 2024, he had the honor of opening for Boyz II Men at the Madam Walker Legacy Fest.

Alongside his work as a performer, I’Ivan spends his days as an ABA therapist supporting children with autism. No matter the setting, his goal is always the same—to create music that connects deeply and resonates with diverse audiences.

Ivan will be providing the musical accompaniment as guests enjoy a delicious luxury brunch prepared by the incomparable Temicka Chef Tweet Moore! Come join us on Saturday, March 7, 2026!
